.52 rf caliber, 22" round barrel, S/N 20532. The address on the top flat is Spencer Repeating Arms Co, Boston Mass. This Carbine may have been issued to the 12th Ill vol Cav unit during the Civil War, this serial number is in the middle of carbines that was issued to this unit. The metal on this carbine is sharp and crisp and mostly a smooth brown patina, nice untouched. The barrel is mostly a plum to dark brown. The stock and forearm with nicks and dings and dark. Partially faint cartouche. The bore is very good with six sharp lands and grooves. Excellent mechanics. Overall this is a very good representative Civil War Carbine.
