EXTREMELY RARE REMINGTON FACTORY DELUXE No. 2 ROLLING BLOCK IN DESIRABLE .32 WCF (.32-20), #14XXX, c.1880s. These are incredibly scarce guns as most were fairly plain working small caliber rifles. This example with 26” octagon barrel is factory fitted with a nickel plated Swiss butt plate and checkered wrist and forearm with raised panels at the receiver end and a steel forend tip. Further, it is factory fitted with a “Rough & Ready” ladder rear sight and Beach combination folding globe front sight with pinhead. The underside of the barrel is stamped “32 W” for Winchester indicating the .32 WCF chambering. The barrel, receiver and butt plate have matching serial numbers. The butt plate retains nearly all the factory nickel and the checkering is still fairly sharp on both wrist and forend. The barrel retains most of the lightly aged blue with some light flaking/spotting on the right side toward the muzzle, and has the correct Remington markings. The ladder rear sight needs the sliding eye disc only (Montana Vintage Arms sells a reproduction of this sight and can no doubt supply the small sliding disc). The receiver shows good case color around the central portion of the left side with the balance an uncleaned mottled gray with good color in protected areas. Fine blue on the hammer and breech block, tight action and excellent bore with maybe a small amount of minor corrosion ahead of the chamber. Stock and forend show minor handling marks and has not been sanded or refinished. An outstandingly rare and attractive No. 2 Rolling Block. One can search for years and not find one of these.
