Description:
JONATHAN BROWNING MOUNTAIN RIFLE, .45 PERCUSSION, IRON MOUNTED, MADE 1970s. These fine American made muzzle loaders came in .45, .50 and .54 caliber and mounted in either brass or iron. By far, the most scarce are the .45 caliber rifles and especially those that are iron mounted like this one. Underrated by a lot of people who think the .45 caliber is generally too small when actually it is very versatile. Using a round ball it is perfect for small game and target shooting/plinking with little recoil and wasted powder. BUT, load a 300+ grain lead bullet ahead of 90 or more grains of black powder and you’ve equaled the .45-90 Winchester and bettered the .45-75 Winchester loading for the big Model 1876 lever rifle. This example has seen some use here in Montana, but has an excellent bore and mechanics. The single set trigger functions correctly and retains the adjustment screw. It has an adjustable rear sight with blade front sight. All furniture and barrel is factory browned. The walnut stock shows some burl and is of a higher grade than normally seen on these. There are some light dings in the wood mainly along the high line of the cheek piece etc. All shallow and this rifle could easily be brought back to as new condition with some wood refinishing or just left as is for a working rifle. These are accurate and rugged rifles long out of production and getting difficult to find.
