The Marlin Model 336 was introduced in 1948 but is the descendant of earlier rifles, evolving from the Model 1893 (1893–1936), then the Model 36 (1936–1948). The 336 was developed by incorporating design improvements from Thomas R. Robinson Jr. into the existing Model 36 platform. Key changes over time include the introduction of the flat-top, scope-ready receiver in the late 1950s and the \"Micro-Groove\" rifling in 1956. The rifle‚s production history saw ownership changes, moving from Marlin Firearms to Remington Arms in 2007, and more recently, production was acquired by Ruger in 2020, which has continued production. This is JM stamped. Stock looks like it could have been refinished, but we can‚t be certain.
