Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-90 Antique
This is a Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-90 WCF is in a standard configuration for this model. it has a blue finished full 26" Octagon barrel with a buck horn rear barrel sight and blade front sight. The butt stock and fore stock are walnut with a crescent but plate. The rifle has a Cody Museum indicating that this particular rifle was manufactured and shipped in 1891 and is considered an antique.
Condition:
The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 rifle is very good to fine. The barrel and mag tube have about 80% of its original blue finish, which shows some thinning. Along the barrel surface there is some staining and fine pits. The bore is good with some roughness and light pits. The receiver has a sliver/gray finish with some staining, as are the nose cap and lever. The butt plate has some roughness but is smooth. The screw heads are generally in very nice, unmessed with condition. With some turn wear evident only on the bottom tang screws under the lever, minor. The stocks are in very good condition showing some nicks, bumps, and dings typical from use. This rifle cycles well and locks up firmly and seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. The Cody Museum letter that accompanies this rifle indicates that this rifle was made and shipped in 1891 so it is an antique. Being antique, this rifle can be shipped directly to the buyer.
Large bore Winchester 1886 rifles are very popular with 45-70 being the largest number built, followed by 40-82, and then 45-90WCF with approximately 23000 being made. Even with the 45-90 being one of the larger number of rifles being produced they don't seem to come up often and when they do they command a premium price. This is an excellent example of an antique Winchester 1886 rifle in a popular caliber. It is being offered and a very good price and being an antique it can be shipped directly to the buyer.
