Beretta 9000S (Type F) – 40 S&W – 3.5" Barrel – 10+1
Beretta’s first entry into the polymer framed pistol market was the 9000S. While the 9000S never gained wide acceptance in the market, they shot surprisingly well. Our pistol (serial number SN005140) is the Type F (external hammer) version and is chambered in 40 S&W.
The pistol has a 3.5 inch barrel and white, 3 dot sights. The pistol functions in either single action or double action modes. An ambi safety with decocker sits at the rear of the slide. The single action trigger has some slight takeup and then a smooth break. The double action trigger feels like a standard double action trigger.
Beretta invested in a ergonomic designed frame by Giugiaro Design, including a techno polymer frame. Another part of this design was an overmold grip. We’re not sure where Beretta went wrong on the grips buy many owners reported flaking and peeling of the grip. This pistol is no exception to that. The most common solution from owners has been to completely peel the factory grip and then replace with molded kydex. Seems like that’s a make-sense solution.
Outside of the grip issue that we discussed, the pistol is in Excellent condition. The frame and slide both grade as Excellent. The bore is clean and the pistol has a good barrel and rifling. There is some slight wear on the top of the barrel as is common with Beretta open slide models.
As mentioned earlier, the pistols shot very well. In the case of the 40 S&W models, the pistol is just heavy enough to take away a lot of the snap from a 40 caliber sub-compact.
The owner has this one priced according to condition. For a solid Beretta pistol, this seems like a good investment.
