Description: Antique Remington Navy Factory Conversion to .38 Long Colt Center Fire.. This is a nice Remington conversion. It is the factory conversion model with the original ejector rod and loading gate and Not the cheap and crude ones converted by gun smiths, black smiths and such. It is chambered for the .38 caliber Long Colt center fire. Most of these that you find are in Rim Fire and they do not bring the price of the ones made in Center Fire and the Navy did not want the ones in Rim Fire in their Colt's or Remington's. I am not sure this gun was issued to the Navy or not but it is much more sought after than the Rim Fire model.. It has the standard 7 3/8” barrel. I sold this gun to a customer down in Texas a few years ago and just took it back in on a trade deal. He was shooting this gun and it is accurate but shoots about 4 inches high is what he said. The mechanics are excellent and this gun is crisp and tight as new with perfect indexing and lock up.. The bore is mint, bright and shiny as are the cylinder chambers. The gun is just a gray gun with just traces of blue in the most protected areas. The barrel address is weak as most of these Remington's are when they were new plus it was polished and refinished after the conversion process. The S/N on the barrel and frame under the left grip matches and is 27719 and also the conversion number 4 is on the barrel and the fame under the grip. There is another set of numbers under the grip and I have no idea what they represent. It still retains the original loading gate with the opening tab still intact and not broken of like so many that you will find. The tab sticks out quite far and easily broken off. It opens and closes perfectly. Also still has the original ejector rod and spring assembly intact and the notched rammer for the ejector rod to sit in. { see photos } Also the original cylinder pin with no right “wing” so it will clear the ejector rod. All parts are 100% intact and correct. The original front sight has been thinned down as you can see in the close up photo and probably lower than standard.. That is probably why it shoots a little high. The grip are very nice with no cracks or chips. The right grip fits slightly below the metal on the bottom. These factory conversions are much better than the private conversions that you see that are very rough and most of those do not even function or index correctly. You do not see these Remington Navies in center fire for sale very often.. This is one that is 100% complete and correct and at a very reasonable price... The great book on these conversion by the late Bruce McDowell explains these in great detail.
