Description:
  • The Mark X is essentially a civilian/commercial-sporting rifle built on a “Mauser-type” action. Its barreled actions were made by Zastava Arms (in what was then Yugoslavia), using a large-ring “commercial” version of the classic Mauser 98 action.
  • After barreling and finishing, the actions were imported to the U.S. by Interarms (headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia) — often after passing through Manchester, England. Stocks were then fitted in the U.S., and rifles were finished with their markings.
  • Production/import of Mark X rifles began around 1970, and continued through the 1970s into mid-1990s. Over that period, Interarms imported rifles in many calibers including .30-06 Springfield.
  • The Mark X built a reputation as a “market-grade Mauser” — more refined than surplus military Mausers, but more affordable than fully custom rifles. Many owners and hunters appreciated the solid Mauser-style action, reliable controlled-feed bolt, and the option for scope mounting and custom stocks.

Description

  • Action: Large-ring Mauser-style bolt action: dual opposing locking lugs, claw extractor (controlled round feed), fixed ejector.
  • Safety & Bolt: Unlike old military Mausers with a three-position bolt-shroud safety, Mark X uses a two-position safety lever on the right rear side of the bolt.
  • Magazine: Internal (fixed) magazine, sometimes described as “double-stack.” Hinged steel floorplate / floor-plate magazine — allowing unloading the magazine safely.
  • Receiver & Scope Prep: Commercial Mauser receiver, typically drilled and tapped (on top) to accept scope mounts — a common reason people used these rifles for hunting with optics.
  • Trigger: Adjustable trigger mechanism (user-adjustable pull weight and over-travel), generally improving on the “standard” factory trigger.
  • Stock Options: Very good walnut with cut checkering, pistol grip, grip cap, and Schnabel forend.

Conclusion
This used rifle has — “very good blued metal, very good checkered walnut grip stock with Schnabel forend and cheek rest, black oval grip cap, black checkered butt plate, 22" barrel, bright shiny bore, good rifling, mechanically solid Mauser-style action drilled and tapped for optics, jeweled bolt, bolt safety, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, sling studs installed” items that generally match the known characteristics of a nicely made, well-preserved Interarms Mark X in .30-06. It is a great example of what makes the Mark X attractive: a dependable Mauser-type platform, good materials and craftsmanship, and versatile configuration for hunting or sport shooting.
