Description:
Great case colors!  This set was made in 1971 and kicked off the 2nd generation of Colt blackpowder series.

THIS IS THE U.S. GRANT 1851 NAVY COMMEMORATIVE SET.  It is unfired and in near perfect condition.     The C Series ’51 .36 caliber is the best shooter in the 2nd gen lineup. However, this gun is unfired and as near perfect as you can get.  Minor handling marks on grips.  No turn line on cylinder.  Complete with all accoutrements, Bag style Dixon powder flask, Tapered shoulder lustrous nipple wrench, Colts patent 36 cal brass bullet mold, and Eley percussion cap tin.  Presentation case did not have a key when I got it but I found one on eBay that fits but does not turn the lock.  Looks good  though.

Serial Number: 4087 USG
Year of Manufacture: 1971

Caliber: .36 Caliber Colt specs are 15-20 grains of FFFg black powder, Numer 10 caps, .378 to .380 inch round balls or conicals

Markings:   The top barrel flat is stamped “Address SamL Colt New-York City”. The left barrel flat is inscribed, “Ulysses S. Grant Commemorative – Nineteen Seventy One”. The left side of the frame is stamped “Colt’s /Patent”. The letter”O”  is stamped on the bottom of the barrel under the lever.  S/N 3158 is stamped on the bottom of the frame, the trigger guard, and the heel of the grip frame. The cylinder is etched with the naval battle scene commemorating the battle of Campeche, and is inscribed, “Colt’s Patent No. 3915 / Engraved by W L Ormsby, New York”, and “Engaged 16 May 1843.”

Barrel Length: 7 1/2"

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a brass bead front sight and a notched hammer rear sight.

Grip Configuration & Condition: The stocks are varnished wood, with nice grain.2 almost imperceptible marks are on the upper, left grip. Otherwise, this gun shows practically no wear and is otherwise in excellent condition. As befits a Colt, the grip is well fitted to the grip frame.

Type of Finish: The barrel, cylinder, and trigger are “C” Series royal blue blue, the rammer, frame, and hammer are color case hardened, and the grip frame is German silver. The case hardening is especially attractive.

Finish Originality: Original Finish C Series royal blue

Overall Condition: Overall Condition: The gun retains about 99.9% of its metal finish.  The markings are clear and distinct. Overall, this gun rates in about Prime Excellent condition.  No turn line, no scratches.
