Description:
Swede Husqvarna Rolling Block rifle, receiver marked right side “H 1872”.  Serial number 425 matching on receiver and trigger plate (under buttstock).  Faint case colors on left side of receiver in protected areas around hammer and breechblock pins.  Round barrel, 32”, excellent bore and rifling, shiny.  Groove-to-groove diameter 0.512”, land-to-land diameter .476”.  Early “dished” breech block (concave hub).  Brass buttplate marked “845”, brass regimental disc inletted left side of buttstock.  Sling swivels.

In all likelihood this rifle was originally 12.17x44mmR centerfire, a metric black powder cartridge caliber very similar to US 50-70 Gov't except with slightly shorter case.  A loaded 50-70 cartridge chambers normally in this rifle, apparently at some point the chamber was lightly “kissed” with a 50-70 chamber reamer so it would accept 50-70 ammo.

Over time the Swedish military surplussed their late 1800s rolling block firearms.  Many of these were sporterized to be the civilian sporting rifles of Sweden for 70-80 year.

12.17x44mmR caliber AKA 12.17x44R caliber, the 12.17 referring to the bore (land-to-land) diameter, 44mm referring to length of brass case, R meaning rimmed case.  AKA 12.7x44mmR caliber, the 12.7 referring to the bullet diameter (nominal groove-to-groove diameter).
