Description: In 1957, Smith & Wesson unveiled a brand-new pistol designed specifically for rimfire target competitions and precision. The pistol featured a 1911-esque grip angle, wide contoured wood target grips, and a revolutionary 7" fixed heavy target barrel with separate reciprocating slide. The pistol was first called the ".22 Automatic," but would be later designated the Model 41. For years, the pistol has been a baseline to compare other similar pistols to until its recent announcement discontinuation in 2025—ending over 60 years of continuous production. This example is nearly a collector's dream find, especially at its price point. The gun can be dated to a first/second year production of 1958 and features nearly every upgraded option available at its release! The pistol of course features adjustable target rear sights with a fixed Patridge front sight that has been painted red by a previous shooter. The barrel's top surface features a hand-checkered groove—a testament to the fine craftsmanship put into these top-of-the-line pistols. Along with the barrel checkering, the rear sight is also textured to reduce glare and the front strap has been serrated for grip texture. The pistol features a factory three-port compensator and has adjustable olympic-style weights affixed to the front of the barrel, adding exactly one pound to the overall weight of the gun. The oil-finished checkered grips are original to the gun and the wide serrated target trigger is phenomenal, with no creep or overtravel and an extremely sub-pound trigger weight—one can easily tell that this pistol was built for accuracy. The rear of the slide does have a protruding status indicator—a feature only seen on early Model 41s. This Model 41 is in excellent operating condition, but has been clearly well-used over its lifetime. The bore is in good condition with no rust or corrosion, but the compensator has had a lot of lead and carbon buildup over the years. The checkering is well-worn on the grips and the wood's finish shows considerable wear. Wear marks on the slide and barrel are evident from typical use. Unfortunately, this pistol does not include an original box or papers, but will include one 10-round magazine. Pick up this incredible piece of Smith & Wesson and target pistol history at a great price—much lower than even new-production models available today! .22 Long Rifle Price: $1,199.99 Chambers: .22 Long Rifle Metal Condition: Good with some bluing loss Wood Condition: Good with some wear on finish and checkering Bore Condition: Good Barrels: 7" Barrel with 3-port factory compensator Triggers: Grooved target trigger Weight: 3 lbs 11 oz Sights: "Adjustable target square notch rear sight with fixed Patridge front sight, painted red; checkered rib Item Location: Kearney, NE |
