Description: General Specs: Browning, 1954, 20 Gauge, 6lbs. 8oz., Chokes IM/XF, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 6830 In the early decades of the twentieth century John Browning started to design something not available to American shooters, a high-quality, affordable over/under shotgun. Sadly, this was to be his last design, his final legacy to the gun world- The Superposed. As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the long tang, round knob guns built before 1966. In fact, most Browning guys like the 1950’s guns best of all. This Superposed (serial number 6830) with Grade 1 engraving was manufactured in 1954 before the change to the short tang trigger guard and the beginning of the “salt-wood debacle”. Guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because of the way Browning cured their wood. Not all guns were affected, but the marketplace still has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs built from 1967 to about 1971. Production of the Browning Superposed was undertaken in Belgium, from 1931 through 1977 when traditional craftsmanship and production ended. The 28” barrels chambered for 2 3/4” 20-gauge shells, are choked IM/XF, ideal for going away birds and features 99% blue and mirror bores. The receiver and trigger bow show 98% factory blue with very slight fading at the carry point. The furniture has perfect checkering, excellent wood to metal fit, and all capped off with a horn buttplate. This is an exemplary Browning Superposed LONG TANG ROUND KNOB, it is just in time for the season that is upon us and will work equally well at the club breaking clays. This is a gun that will provide years of flawless performance for the new owner while gaining value! A classic Belgium Superposed with all the right attributes.
