Attractive, original, and all matching Colt 1860 Army Revolver, cal. .44, manufactured in 1862, a classic Civil War and Frontier Expansion revolver, this example accompanied by an original discharge document from a Civil War veteran.

Description:

All matching standard configuration Colt 1860 Army revolver, .44 percussion, SN: 74916, manufactured in 1862 with over 129,000 having been purchased by the US Government. Features include a round 7.5" barrel with fixed blade front sight and hammer-notch rear sight, engraved rebated cylinder depicting naval battle scenes of the Battle of Campeche on May 16, 1843, and brass trigger guard. Top of barrel marked "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" with matching cylinder showing "COLTS PATENT No 4916" and "PAT SEPT 10TH 1850" patent markings. Left side of frame marked "COLTS PATENT" below the cylinder. Fitted with smooth walnut grips showing natural wood grain and cartouche acceptance on each panel. Grip strap is inspection-stamped "W". Serial number 74916 appears on brass trigger guard, under barrel, steel frame, and butt. Wedge and cylinder axle marked "4916". Accompanying this revolver is a framed, original discharge paper of Samuel Linsenbigler, dated 16 June 1865, referencing his three years of duty during the Civil War. On the back are additional notes dated 6 August 1870. The Colt 1860 Army became one of the most successful revolvers in firearms history and was widely used during the American Civil War and western expansion, favored by military forces and civilians including Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill Cody!

Condition:

VG+ original condition with fading in usual areas of holster contact and handling. Faded/dulled color case hardening on ramrod, hammer and frame. Brass trigger guard having toned to a pleasant mustard color. Grips oil stained with scattered handling marks, inspection cartouches easily discernible. Bright bore with light oxidation, sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics with each of the cylinders indexing nicely on full cock. EXC original discharge document with expected fading and folds.
