Description:

Synopsis:

Wonderful, original condition and all-matching Remington-Elliot pepperbox derringer, cal. .22 rimfire, with a five-barrel complex, fired by a ring trigger that actuated a revolving firing pin. The epitome of the pepper box iterations and a popular 19th century choice for concealed carry applications. ANTIQUE!

Description:

Standard configuration Remington-Elliot Pepper Box Revolver, SN: 3600, cal. .22, manufactured from 1863 to about 1880, with a blued 3-inch, five-barrel cluster, the firing accomplished with a rotating firing pin actuated by the DA-only ring trigger. Bead front sight and groove rear sight. Nickel-plated frame #3600 with ring trigger design typical of Civil War era pocket pistols. The top of the barrel assembly is marked "MANUFACTURED BY E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y." / "ELLIOT'S PATENTS MAY 29, 1860 - OCT 1, 1861", with matching serial number "3600" marked underneath, visible when the assembly is tilted up for loading. Dark wooden grips, each secured with a single screw. A wonderfully complex mechanism, representing one of the final iterations of the pepper box design before being superseded by conventional revolvers.

Condition:

VG/EXC original blue on the five barrel cluster with wear/thinning/oxidative flecking as one might expect from a carried revolver now over 150 years old. Most of the nickeling remaining on the frame with light spotting, bubbling, and handling marks on the backstrap and butt. Near excellent wooden panels retaining most of their varnish with light handling marks. All bores bright with sharply delineated rifling. Correct manual mechanics. ANTIQUE!
