Description:

Synopsis:

Springfield Armory Model 1903 US WWI Military Rifle, barrel dated "3-06" whose stock markings suggest an Ogden, Utah rebuild, later issued to the United Spanish War Veterans (USWV), an organization for veterans of the Spanish-American and Philippine-American War, complete with a 1907-dated RIA-marked bayonet and scabbard.

Description:

Standard configuration Springfield Armory Model 1903 rifle, SN: 104984, cal. .30-06, with 24" bbl having blade front and ladder rear sight whose vertical component is graded 1-27. Barrel marked "SA/flaming bomb/3-06", usual receiver markings. High hump handguard. Smooth, straight grip "S" stock with finger grooves, two sling loops, single reinforcing bolt, boxed unidentifiable inspection cartouche, "UTAH" on top of comb, "USWV" on left side of buttstock near smooth steel trapdoor buttplate. Complete with 1907 dated RIA-marked bayonet, US / "75956" in canvas-covered scabbard with leather reinforcement tip.

Condition:

G/VG original finish with fading, thinning, and toning as one might expect from a early service rifle that has seen moderate-heavy use. At some point the rifle was likely refurbished at the Ogden Arsenal in UTAH, explaining why the cartouche on the left side is not easily discernible, though the USWV marking on the buttstock, applied later, remains clear. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. VG+ bayonet, arsenal reworked, scabbard is likely a reproduction.
