Spectacular Early UNFIRED Chilean Mauser 1895 7x57 Military Rifle
Offered here for sale and just acquired is this EARLY superb near mint Chilean Mauser Model 1895 military rifle in 7x57 caliber. It is all original and all matching. It retains all of its blued finish on metal with vibrant fire blue on appropriate parts. Bore is mint and it may well be UNFIRED. Cartouches in stock are perfect as well with stock marked with 1898 date. 30" barrel.
The Mauser Model 1895 was a bolt-action, internal-magazine rifle chambered for the 7×57 mm Mauser cartridge. It was the first major evolution of the earlier Mauser Model 1893 — improving the magazine design, bolt action, and reliability.
The “Chilean contract” rifles — often identified as “Fusil Mauser Chileno Modelo 1895” — were among those exported to foreign armies. Manufacture was handled originally by Ludwig Loewe & Company (circa 1895–1896), then by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) from roughly 1897–1900.
The M1895 was state-of-the-art for its time: a smokeless-powder, bolt-action repeater with a 5-round internal magazine loaded by stripper clips — a big advance over single-shot black-powder rifles popular only a few years earlier. Regarding production by DWM for the Chilean military, around 1897–1900 the 1898 stock cartouche suggests it was accepted or inspected in 1898, making that a very plausible manufacturing/inspection date. Given that, it's quite likely your rifle that this is an original 1898 DWM-made Chilean contract Mauser Model 1895 — i.e. one of the earlier full-length Chilean Mausers.
It has only a few very minor storage marks otherwise untouched and uncleaned. Certainly an item for the serious Mauser collector which should occupy a lofty place in any collection.
