Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-90 Antique
This is a Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-90 WCF is in a standard configuration with a full 26" Octagon barrel and with a buck horn rear barrel sight and blade front sight. The butt stock and fore stock are walnut with a crescent but plate.
Condition:
The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 is fine and has an un-messed with appearance. The metal surfaces have a mostly mottled but even sliver/gray patina with darker finish near the sights, lever, and trigger. The buttplate and forecap have the same mottled gray finish with some staining a very light pits. The legends and markings are strong and clear. The screw heads are in excellent shape with only a couple showing some turn wear. The bore is fine with strong rifling and only some slight pitting near the muzzle, +7 or better. The walnut stocks are in good shape with the bumps and nicks common with a rifle this age. The overall color is even with the buttstock and forearm matching. Under the buttstock there is a hole where a sling swivel was attached at one time. There is also a nick at the top of the comb as well as some nicks where the bottom of the buttstock meets the butt plate.
This rifle cycles a cartridge well and locks up firmly and ejects strongly is in excellent mechanical condition. Large bore Winchester 1886 rifles are very popular with 45-70 being the largest number built, followed by 40-82, and then 45-90 WCF with approximately 23000 being made. With the 45-90 being one of the larger number of rifles being produced they don't seem to come up often and when they do they command a premium price. This is an excellent example of an antique Winchester 1886 rifle in a popular caliber made in 1891. It is being offered and a good price and being an antique it can be shipped directly to the buyer.
