Made in Birmingham circa 1812, this big rifle features a 30-inch octagon barrel (marked “C&T Narrow Twisted” under wood line), 1.325-inch muzzle diameter, bead front sight, dovetail-mounted rear sight assembly with one fixed and two folding leafs, steel ramrod). Features include a hammer safety, appointed stock (double-bordered grip checkering, scalloped cheek rest with shadow line, patch box and a steel butt with comb extension. Weight is 13.8 pounds. ENGRAVING: Supported by a silver band, the maker's name appears in a silver plate inlaid into the rear of the barrel. Lock, guard, butt extension and screws are accented with what appears to be a military theme supported by scroll. The shield wears an initialed crest. CONDITION: The bore has browned and shows mild roughness but strong and viable rifling. Lock is sluggish but operates properly. Stock is solid.
