Dougall guns are always of highest quality and beautifully fitted and finished. While the Edinburgh gunmakers took much of the limelight in the 19th century it was Dougall that really caught the attention of sportsman across the country with the introduction of his Lockfast gun and the success of his Glasgow business enabled him to open a London branch. Handsome J.D. Dougall 12 bore boxlock ejector with 30” nitro Damascus barrels. Straight grip stock and splinter forearm made of highly figured French walnut. Dougall number 4155 was made in 1895 on the proven Anson & Deeley action. Presented in its canvas and leather case with maker’s label with accessories including snap caps, mahogany cleaning rod, and cleaning tools. The 30” barrels are made of highly figured Damascus which were nitro proofed in Birmingham. They are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and have a Dolls head third bite. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, low pressure 2-1/2 inch shotshells are available in the US from Clays Ammo, Game Bore, and RST shells. The barrels are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “J. Dougall & Sons 23 Gordon St. Glasgow”. The right barrel is bored 0.737 with a constriction of 0.003 for Cylinder choke. Minimum all thickness is 0.025. The left barrel is bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.030 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut. The forearm is secured by an Anson push-rod fastener. Crisp, refreshed checkering with a 3/4" checkered ebonite buttplate. Stock dimensions are 14-7/8” including the 3/4” ebonite pad by 1-5/8” by 2-3/8”. Cast off for the righthand shot. Dougall shotguns are known as sturdy and reliable Scottish doubles.
