Springfield Model 1842 Percussion Musket Updated for the Civil War with long range rear sight and rifle barrel. 69 cal Bore VG strong rifling. Mech Exc with excellent nipple. The wood is VG with partial cartouche and a few nicks and dings from use and has an original US marked buttplate Has an original 42” barrel with bayonet lug ,ramrod, exc nipple, barrel bands and sling swivels. Also has 1854 date on the barrel and the vp eagle head proof marking all ahead of the rear tang. The lockplate is excellent with springfield 1855 date and has the eagle with US under in the middle. The metal overall has an aged grey patina finish with traces of fine pitting in the nipple area. These muskets were given to volunteers entering the civil war
