***** WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 - SERIAL NUMBER 87 *****

You are looking at an excellent condition, all factory original, antique Winchester model 1885, 1st month of production rifle SERIAL #87 in the very popular caliber 45-70 from the well-known Peter & Patty Murray Winchester Collection.
It has a No. 3 extra heavy 29.5” octagon barrel, period correct fishhook sling swivels, crescent steel butt plate.  Rifle is in excellent condition, both wood and blue for its age, no case hardening remains on the receiver, bore is not perfect but in very nice shootable condition.

When will you find another Winchester 1885 that has a 2-digit serial No. 87 to add to your collection.

This fine Winchester Model 1885 comes with a CODY LETTER.
The letter states several changes were made by Winchester to the rifle during its history when Winchester was keeping records that are now at Cody.
The final change to the gun, we are assuming were made by Peter Murray or possibly before his ownership, by Wincheste; a 29.5" No. 3, caliber 45-70 heavy barrel was installed.

Additional information on this rifle:
  • Bore is not 100%, but very nice for the age of the rifle.
  • Handling and age marks in the stock.
  • Original case hardening is no longer on the receiver.
  • Bluing on the rifle BBL is nice
  • There is a small crack in the forearm that has been nicely repaired, looks like several years ago, but was nicely done, probably by Peter Murray.
A wonderful piece to add to any Winchester collection.   This rifle was manufactured in the first month of production in 1885.

I require $100 for shipping the rifle insured with adult signature upon arrival.  If packing and shipping are less, the cost to you will be less before it is shipped or refunded after.
