The Heckler & Koch (HK) USP 45 Compact with a stainless steel slide is a highly durable, reliable, and accurate semi-automatic pistol designed for concealed carry and law enforcement use. It combines a corrosion-proof polymer frame with a one-piece machined stainless steel slide for enhanced resistance to the elements. The 'Universal Self-loading Pistol' was designed to incorporate many features that the military and law enforcement agencies deemed vital. It uses the Browning cam-breech-locking system. The USP has various safety options. The double-action (DA/SA) variants can have either a decocking lever or safety-only lever on either the left or right side of the frame, or no safety lever at all. The double-action only (DAO) variants can have a safety-only lever on either the left or right side of the frame, or no safety lever at all. DAO variants have a bobbed hammer. Key Features and Description Slide Finish: The distinguishing feature is the stainless steel slide, which offers superior corrosion resistance compared to the standard "Hostile Environment" blued finish. The slide itself is a single piece of machined steel, nitro-carburized for added durability. Frame: It utilizes a fiber-reinforced polymer frame which is both lightweight and incredibly tough, stiffened by stainless steel inserts at key stress points. The grip is a narrow, full-hand design intended for better ergonomics and concealability than some subcompacts, with an aggressive texture for a secure hold. Recoil System: To manage the powerful .45 ACP cartridge in a compact frame, the pistol features a specially designed captive recoil spring assembly with a polymer absorber bushing. This system is engineered to reduce felt recoil and impact on internal components, contributing to a service life of over 20,000 rounds and enabling the use of high-energy +P loads. Trigger and Safety: The USP Compact 45 is typically available in a Double Action/Single Action (DA/SA) mechanism, known as the V1 (Variant 1) trigger firing mode, which can be converted into any of nine different trigger modes. It includes a frame-mounted control lever (safety and decocker combination) that allows for various carry options, including "cocked and locked" (Condition 1). The hammer is a "bobbed," or spurred, design to prevent snagging during the draw. Barrel: The 3.78-inch barrel features a polygonal bore profile, which increases bullet velocity, enhances accuracy, and simplifies cleaning. Usability: The design includes an ambidextrous magazine release lever and a contoured, extended slide release for ease of use.
