NEWARK. N.J. Brief Company History: The Manhattan Arms Company was a significant player in the firearms industry during the mid-19th century. Founded in 1856, it was based in Newark, New Jersey. Condition: Nice overall bore with a light oxidation and minor pitting from black powder use. Barrel and cylinder retain traces of the original blue with light oxidation speckling and remainder turning to a gun-metal gray patina. The cylinder engraving scene is very faint. The frame is mostly a ocher patina with light handling marks. The smooth walnut grips are in very fine condition retaining most of the original varnish showing some light handling marks with solid fit to frame. The barrel markings are clear and legible. The German silver front sight blade remains intact. The barrel to frame fit has just a slight bit of play. . The action is functional with very strong hammer spring, good timing and lock-up. Due to their historical significance, limited production numbers,, Manhattan Arms Co. pistols are highly sought after by collectors of antique firearms. This pistol represents a rare and historically significant firearm. Its innovative design and limited production make it a prized collectible for enthusiasts of antique firearms.
