The blade has a mostly pale gray patina with areas of dark plum-brown freckling throughout, heaviest on the reverse forte. The ricasso markings are crisp and clear: "L.F. (flaming bomb) & C. / 1918" on the reverse, "US / (eaglehead proof)" on the obverse. The sheet metal guard has retained most of its original dark olive painted finish, with thin surface oxidation present throughout as well. The checkered metal grip likewise retains its matching painted finish with some flaking and wear that exposes the underlying gray metal. The original canvas and metal scabbard is included, with visible surface wear on the cloth wrap, as well as moderate flaking and freckling on the thoat piece. This is an about very good example of the last combat cavalry sword adopted by the U.S. Army, and would make a great representative example for a collection of US edged weapons. Price: $650.00 |
