Description: Offered for sale is a scarce and historically interesting Remington Model 10D Grade 12-gauge pump shotgun, serial number 155827, manufactured circa 1912 during the early years of production for this John Browning–designed bottom-eject action. The D Grade represents an upgraded factory variant featuring engraved metalwork, better walnut, and elevated craftsmanship compared to standard field-grade guns. This example retains approximately 70% original blue, showing honest and even wear with no evidence of refinish. It features a highly uncommon English straight grip, a 30 inch solid matted rib barrel, fixed Modified choke, and a brass front bead. These features collectively make this one of the more desirable configurations found on a Model 10, especially in D Grade form. Adding to its historical character, the stock contains a period presentation plaque engraved: "Presented to Mr. O. P. Frase by the S.S. Master Bakers Ass’n – Feb. 2, 1920." While presentation plates do not add monetary value, they provide meaningful provenance and confirm early period ownership. This plaque offers a direct link to the gun’s past and highlights its use as an award or ceremonial presentation piece over a century ago. It also supports the originality of the stock and the gun’s overall period integrity. • Manufacturer: Remington Arms Co. • Model: 10D Grade • Gauge: 12 gauge • Barrel Length: 30 inches • Rib: Solid, flat, matted rib • Choke: Fixed Modified • Stock: English straight grip • Length of Pull: 14½ inches • Drop at Comb: 1½ inches • Drop at Heel: 2 inches • Cast: Neutral • Front Sight: Brass bead • Finish: Approximately 70% original blue (not refinished) • Special Feature: Stock-mounted 1920 presentation plaque This Model 10D Grade remains in solid, mechanically sound condition with approximately 70% original blue finish showing honest wear along the barrel and receiver top. The wood is structurally sound with its original finish and expected handling marks for its age. The engraved D Grade receiver shows good definition, and all rollmarks are clear. The action cycles properly, and the solid rib remains straight with no separation. The presentation plaque is fully legible and sits flush with the stock, displaying a century old history without compromising function. • D Grade Model 10s are significantly scarcer than standard field grades and display more refined workmanship. • The English straight grip is extremely uncommon on the Model 10 and enhances both collector appeal and handling. • The solid matted rib is a premium barrel feature not found on most examples. • Early manufacture date (circa 1912) places this gun in the most desirable period of Model 10 production. • The 1920 presentation plaque adds provenance and historical character without affecting functional value. • Modified choke offers versatile use for clays, upland game, and general-purpose shooting.
