Description:
1918 mfr. COLT “NEW SERVICE” .45 LC Double Action SIX-SHOT Revolver C&R

WORLD WAR I Era Large Frame .45 LONG COLT Revolver

Here Ancestry Guns presents a Colt “New Service” Model Double Action Six-Shot Revolver, made in 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut. This revolver was conceived to be a serious workhorse for the military, police, and anyone who wanted a large double action revolver in a caliber such as .45 Colt. The US would go on to adopt versions that would be known as the Model 1909 and the Model 1917 for the Marines and the Army. Other chamberings that were available throughout the period of manufacture (1898-1946) were .38-40 WCF, .44 Russian, .44-40 WCF, .44 Special, .45 Long Colt, .455 Webley (Eley), and later .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, along with other less common calibers. They would see use in the Spanish American War, the World Wars, even in Vietnam.

There is a faint inscription present on the backstrap, which appears to end with “229”. The purpose of the marking is unknown, though it is possibly a rack or an inventory number.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. Bright bore with strong rifling. Both grips are in very good shape, with the right having a thin crack. Markings are sharp. Visible numbers match.
