Description:

Synopsis:

Gustloff Werke K98k WWII Military Rifle, manufactured in 1940 with a "337" chamber code, cal. 7.92x57 Mauser caliber, now reworked with a number of mismatched parts. Great wall hanger or for "hard on the gun" re-enactments. Perfect for a beginner's first rifle!

Description:

As one of the primary producers of the Karabiner 98k, the Gustloff Werke plant in Weimar supplied large quantities of rifles to the German military during WWII. This rifle was manufactured with the "337" chamber code in 1940, cal. 7.92x57 Mauser, SN: 5126i, now reworked with several mismatched parts. Standard military configuration with drift adjustable front sight set on a serrated ramp and tangent rear sight graduated 1-20. Receiver is marked “337” over “1940” Left side of barrel and receiver ring numbered: 5126i with matching numbers on rear sight/cursor, trigger guard, magazine floorplate, the last two digits on the magazine follower and various screws. Bolt handle numbered "126" in large, shallow numerals. Forward barrel band "3844", second band of sheet metal "9905", unnumbered bayonet lug, safety lever "3950", bolt head with an electropenciled "83". Finely laminated handguard and stock, the latter externally unmarked and without disassembly disc. The cupped buttplate with a third transverse bolt hole near toe.

Condition:

Generously G with finish having faded to blue/grey/ brown and the rebuild reflected by many mismatched/unnumbered parts and a missing retaining screw in the forward trigger guard. Laminated stock has been sanded with laminated cracking on the left side near the reinforcing bolt. No cleaning rod. Cupped buttplate secure but ill-fitting with transverse hole near toe as previously mentioned. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. Scarce chamber code but gets a "D-" for serious collectability.
