Winchester Model 52 Target rifle, first variation, in caliber 22 long rifle with one factory 5-shot clip, 28" barrel with scope blocks, unmarked target front sight, Vaver Company fully adjustable rear sight, one-piece walnut stock, factory sling swivels, bolt action, factory safety on left side rear of receiver, blued finish, serrated steel butt plate. Serial number 784 indicates production in 1922 and is one of only 348 rifles made that year. Production started in 1919 so this is a fourth-year rifle. Total production in all variations reached 125,233 in 1979.
CONDITION: Original bluing is 98% on barrel, front swivel/band, rear swivel, and receiver; trigger bow/plate/clip housing 85% blue. Butt plate worn to mostly gray. Action functions properly, including the safety and the clip release. Bore is a 9.8 of 10, super bright and shiny with no pitting and no visible wear, has been shot thus not a 10 of 10. Rear sight adjustments function as designed. Target front sight measures 2 1/8" front to rear and is factory-installed in the barrel ramp dovetail. Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, with some nicks and dings from use, mostly around the finger grooves, and retains nearly all its original varnish. An outstanding example of the first variation of this model that will make a fantastic shooter as well as a high-quality collector's item.
