VERY FINE SCARCE M-06 EXPERT MODEL .22 SHORT, LONG & LONG RIFLE, NICKEL RECEIVER BOYS’ RIFLE, #563XXX, MADE 1919. The Expert M-06 was the fancy version of the standard rifle and usually came with a nickel plated receiver and unusual “clothes pin” forend/pump. Basically a scaled down version of the famed Model 1890 takedown rifle, both standard and Expert Models are rarely found in decent condition as the boys who owned them tended to “love them to death.” It was a fortunate boy of the time to receive a standard pump action repeating .22 rifle instead of the usual single shot boys’ rifles, and it must have been an exceptionally lucky boy to receive an “Expert Model!” One can easily imagine a wealthy man’s son receiving this rifle nearly 107 years ago for a birthday or Christmas present. Certainly a different time! This example has matching numbers on the receiver and barrel assembly. The stock and forend are excellent showing only very light handling. The butt stock retains the original Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate. Generally excellent nickel with minor edge peeling around the tang edges etc. with slight freckling. The barrel and magazine show aged soft blue with some plum mixing- a little more on the mag tube bottom. Original Winchester 1901 patented rear sight. Exc. markings, Bore a little dark only with strong rifling and minor frost. One of the better examples I’ve seen in a while.
