Offered here is a truly exceptional Winchester Model 42 chambered in .410 bore, presented in an elegant and highly desirable engraved configuration that sets it well above standard production examples. This shotgun combines classic Winchester engineering with tasteful, period-correct embellishment, resulting in a piece that appeals equally to the discerning shooter and the advanced collector seeking something distinctive.
This Model 42 features a 28 inch barrel fitted with a solid flat filed rib and is choked Full, making it a superb choice for disciplined small bore shooting. The gun is stocked with a pistol grip walnut stock measuring 14 1/4 inches length of pull, with approximately 1 1/2 inches drop at comb and 2 1/4 inches drop at heel, with neutral cast. The proportions are classic and well balanced, contributing to the Model 42’s legendary handling characteristics.
The receiver is adorned with high quality game scene engraving on both sides, executed with depth, clarity, and strong artistic composition. The engraving is professionally cut, with crisp detail and attractive scroll work framing the scenes. While no engraver’s signature is visible and the pattern does not correspond to known Winchester factory engraving programs, the work is clearly the product of a skilled hand and is entirely appropriate to the era and character of the gun. Condition is excellent overall.
