Here is a very fine pre-war J. P. Sauer Deluxe Mauser sporter in .30-06. The octagon-to-round barrel has an integral tapered matt rib. The rib is engraved: J. P. SAUER & SON, SUHL, GERMANY, and, on the left side of the barrel: 30 USG. 1906. MOD. MAUSER. The rear sight consists of one standing and two folding leaves, marked to 300 yards. The action is smooth. The bolt has a non-matching s/n. There are Oberndorf-style double set triggers, and the receiver rail is marked: WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER. OBERNDORF. The floor-plate is hinged, with the release inside the trigger-guard. The floor-plate has excellent engraving of a red stag. The lightly figured stock has raised side-paneles and a keyed schnabel fore-end. There is very fine checkering at the wrist. The stock has a European-style beaded cheek-piece, and the length of pull is 13 5/8" over a leather-covered pad. The rifle weighs 7 lbs 8 oz. An excellent pre-war Sauer for the hunter or collector.
