Description:
Very fine condition, all original Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle in coveted 45-70 caliber.
An early rifle made during the 2nd year of production S/N 13987 made in 1887, qualifying it as an antique.
The original barrel and magazine tube bluing remains very strong with consistent depth and color throughout. The remaining metal components are color case hardened with traces showing through, the balance fading to a mottled silver-grey.
The wood is vg-excellent throughout, showing some typical handling marks but no cracks or busted corners and has never been sanded or top coated.
The 26" octagon barrel has an outstanding, nearly mirror bore with distinct rifling troughout.
The mechanical functions are also flawless, butter smooth and crisp with a positive half cock.
The sight package consists of a German silver front and a Winchester sporting rear with 2 folding leaves.
Overall, a far above average and collector quality 1886 rifle in 45-70!
