Description: Early Springfield Armory M1 Garand bearing serial number 4600xx, placing it firmly in the first major wartime production period of World War II. Rifles in this early serial range represent some of the earliest Garands produced for U.S. forces, manufactured as America was rapidly expanding arms production prior to full wartime deployment. This rifle is fitted with a Winchester-manufactured barrel dated 1967, marked accordingly with clear proof marks and U.S. arsenal inspection numbers, reflecting a documented U.S. military arsenal rebuild during its service life. Such rebuilds were standard practice and are an authentic part of the Garand’s history, often performed to keep earlier receivers in service rather than retiring them. Early Springfield receivers paired with later Winchester replacement barrels are desirable to many collectors as they demonstrate the continued military use and refurbishment of early-war rifles through the post-war era. The presence of intact proof stamps and arsenal markings supports the rifle’s authenticity and military provenance. This rifle is marked with the EXEL/GARDNER MA. The M1 Garand is one of the most iconic U.S. service rifles ever produced—famously described by General Patton as “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” Early serial-number examples like this are increasingly scarce, particularly those that remain complete, unmodified, and properly marked. An excellent opportunity to acquire an authentic early-production Springfield M1 Garand with a documented arsenal history, well suited for a serious U.S. military collection or historically focused display.
