Description:
RARE Harpers Ferry Model 1816 Conversion — .69 Cal Smoothbore Musket (Antique)
The Harpers Ferry Model 1816 conversion musket in .69 caliber — a genuine antique bring-back that bridges early 19th-century armament and mid-century percussion technology. Originally produced as a flintlock and later converted to percussion as seen from the 1832 lock plate in the pictures, this example shows the classic evidence of conversion work: plugged flint holes at the lock and an authenticated percussion addition at the barrel.
The musket features a 40.5″ smoothbore barrel with an even browned patina appropriate to black powder service. The stock measures a comfortable 13.5″ length of pull and remains solid for its age, stable example for display or study. The lock functions crisply with strong springs and positive half- and full-cock engagement, a testament to careful preservation and the durability of Harpers Ferry workmanship.
Collectors prize Model 1816 conversions for their direct connection to American military evolution — these pieces were carried and used through a century of change. This is an iconic piece of American arms history, ideal for a period display, museum reproduction grouping, or a serious early small arms collection.
