Description:
R W Wilson Custom Knife & Leather Sheath.  In as-new, unused condition.  The blade is marked R.W. Wilson, Weirton, W.VA."  R.W. Wilson was a very well-known knifemaker.

Weirton W.Va. — RW, Wilson worked in the steel industry in Weirton West Virginia for 46 years. During his free time he traveled to gun shows selling his handmade tomahawks he made on the side. It was at one such show in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1966 that he met a man who was looking for authentic props for a major motion picture adapted from the book "Crow Killer" by Raymond W. Thorp and Robert Bunker. That film turned out to be "Jeremiah Johnson" starring Robert Redford, and Wilson's tomahawks were carried by all the principal actors.

From the obituary for RW Wilson:

RW Wilson, 80, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully on Monday, September 20, 2021 at home with his longtime friend, Secretary and caregiver, Marci Hughes by his side. RW was born on November 29, 1940, in Spring Run, PA, a son to the late Earl Bair and Esther (Smith) Wilson. RW is survived by his younger sister Ruth (John) Semple and seven nieces and nephews. RW worked as machinist for 46 years and retired from Weirton steel.  He was a self-taught, talented knife maker. He contributed much to the knife-making craft and has been recognized by magazines such as Blade, Knife Magazine, Muzzleloader and Gun World. He has also received awards from many gun/knives shows over the years. He was a member of the American Bladesmith Society and the Knife Makers Guild where he was one of the original members. He is best known as the maker of the tomahawks used in the movie, Jeremiah Johnson, and as a teacher and mentor to hundreds of students wanting to become knife makers. RW was a unique person and will be missed by many in the world of knife making.
