The butt stock and fore stock are walnut with a crescent but plate. It feature a single set trigger. Condition: The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 rifle is good to fine. This rifle has been refinished in the distant past, there is some blue with some small patches of light pitting with an even patina. The bore is in fine condition partially bright with strong rifling. The legends are strong and the screw head are in good shape with one or two showing some turn wear. The barrel sights are replacements. The walnut stocks are in good shape and show some minor dings and dents from use over time. The forearm showing an old repaired crack which is tight and the buttstock showing a glued repair at the wrist. This rifle features a proper working single set trigger. The set trigger works by fully cocking the rifle, ready to fire, then pushing the trigger forward and setting it. The sensitivity is set by the small screw behind the trigger. This small screw can be seen in the close up picture of the action. When this rifle came into the shop the set trigger worked but the half cock did not. The lower tang, trigger assembly, and hammer were sent to Wyoming Armory in Cody, WY for repair. It now works perfectly. The rifle cycles and ejects cases strongly and locks up firmly. The early Winchester 1886 rifles that had set triggers were single set like this one and were custom ordered. In later years the single set triggers were replaced with close coupled double set triggers. The mechanical condition of this rifle is excellent. This is a fine 136 year old Winchester 1886 rifle with a set trigger that can easily be put back to work.
