Description:
1876 FACTORY ENGRAVED Antique COLT “NEW LINE” .22 RF Revolver w/PEARL GRIPS

ETCHED PANEL Rimfire SELF DEFENSE/HIDEOUT Revolver

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique New York Factory Engraved Etched Panel Colt New Line .22 Rimfire Revolver with Pearl Grips, made in 1876 in Hartford, Connecticut. The New Line was a single action pocket revolver introduced by the Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1873 and continued through 1884, with the .22 caliber being manufactured between 1873 and 1877 with a total of roughly 55,343 being manufactured.

Two years after the Colt House Revolver, a year after the Colt Open Top, and almost simultaneously alongside the Colt Peacemaker, the Colt New Line was one of the first metallic cartridge, rear-loading revolvers manufactured by Colt. It was designed to be a handy pocket-carry revolver, chambered in .22 rimfire, which was very popular for self-defense in those days.

The revolver features 7 shots of .22 rimfire. Of all the Colt “New Line” revolvers made, the .22 caliber was the only one featuring a 7 shot cylinder. All other calibers utilized a 5-shot cylinder. Etched on the left side of the barrel is “COLT NEW 22”.

The overall condition is fine. Strong action. Original nickel finish. The bore retains some shimmer, but has frosted in appearance and maintains serviceable rifling. Both grips are in very good shape with light handling evidence. Crisp engravings and the left barrel etchings are intact. Numbers on the barrel and frame match. The cylinder is numbered to a different gun. Markings are legible.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-1/4 inches.
