Description:
Excellent Dickson Round Action 12 gauge gun made in 1903. Serial number 5542, the classic Dickson Round Action of which less than 1900 were made. A very shootable, huntable Dickson. Original Stock and Action with Full Replacement barrels. Game rib engraved " John Dickson & Son . Gunmakers . Edinburgh ". Original gun completed July 1903, under Patent use 1036. London proof marks indicate barrels completed and proofed during the 1954 to 1989 proof period.
Fine Replacement Barrels with London proofs. Blacking in very good condition. Barrel length measures 27 inches. Bore diameter at 9 inches from breech measure R .731 and L.730 inches, well within proof at .729 inch. Chokes measure R .006 and L .014 inches. MWT measure R .027 and L .028. Chambers measure 2 5/8 inches. Locking Third Bite.
French Walnut Stock and Splinter Forend have excellent original rubbed oil finish ending in leather pad. Stock Length of Pull measures 14 7/16 inches, Drop at Comb measures 1 1/2 inches and Drop at Heel measures 2 3/16 inches. Minimal Cast. Foreend and action both wear the number "2" as this was originally built as one of a pair. Checkering in high condition.
Triggerplate Round Action shows a beautiful greying silver finish. Makers name on both sides of action, with remainder engraved with rose and scroll pattern with 8 rose bud islands. No evidence of polishing or "brushing" of the action exterior surfaces. Barrels tight to action face with third bite. Safety SAFE in gold.
At a weight of 6.5 pounds, this is a very shootable, field-ready Dickson Round Action shotgun. Barrels are excellent replacements, and easily converted to 2 3/4 inch chambers should user desire it to be done. In addition, the now unavailable Donald Dallas history book of the Dickson family and Gun Business is available for purchase separately.
