Description:
Serial #171, .52 RF, 22" barrel with a good, bright bore that has spots of darker pitting within the grooves along its length. This is an early production gun that has 70-75% of the original blue turning plum-brown on the barrel, with some gray fading at the muzzle, and slightly more original blue on the laterally pivoting breechblock. The hammer and "JOSLYN FIREARMS Co. / STONINGTON / CONN." marked lockplate have a mottled plum-brown patina with some paler brown along the edges. The walnut stock is in very good shape, with some minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the thick, added military oil finish. The brass furniture has turned to a mellow brown-ochre patina over time as well. The action is fully functional and the carbine rates very good plus overall. It would make a splendid representational example for any collection of Civil War weapons. Antique
