This is a Smith & Wesson, Police Pistol Combat, a/k/a Police Pistol Competition, Model 5906, 5 -inch, 9mm. These hand fitted PPC firearms could only to be ordered on Law Enforcement letterhead and were hand built for the officer who ordered it. These are considered some of the finest, most accurate S&W pistols in the modern era.
A few of the Special Features of this PPC pistol:
-Arist-O-Crat Adjustable Sights (three different distances)
-5-inch precision barrel (likely made by Briley)
-Hand-Fit Briley Spherical Bushing
-Stainless-steel frame and longer stainless-steel slide
-Oversize frame rails fitted for smooth slide action
-Slide and Frame finishing by hand
-One of 472 units in the first production run
-Single action with firing pin/hammer block on slide
