Description: General Specs: Lebeau Courally, 1960, 12 Gauge, 6lbs. 10oz., Chokes IM/F, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 1/16", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 43453,43454 Liège, Belgium was home to some of the world’s finest gunmakers, and still produces some of Europe’s best double shotguns. Lebeau Courally is and has been at the top of the list for the who’s who in Europe to order their bespoke shotguns. This matched pair was ordered for the House of S.C.A.M (Milanese Automotive Construction Society) with the initials G.B. engraved on the gold ovals on the belly of the stocks, was made in 1960. While the name suggests automotive, this manufacturer also produced many firearms during WWII. As happens with these fine firearms, they have changed hands over the years, and now the ovals on the belly of the stock read JD. Whoever has held these beautiful guns over the last 65 years, has given them the care they deserve. The barrels on both guns have factory blue that looks brand new, the bores are mirror, and the engraved borders and makers name at the breech end are crisp and clear. The gold inlay of 1 and 2, respectively are nicely done and present on the breech end of the rib as well as the skeletonized and highly engraved top lever of each gun. The breech fences have deep relief and scroll engraving with a raised border following from the rib down to the frame and around the sidelock, that is sharp and creates a visual flow that is unique and very well done. The frame and sidelocks have a combination of floral and scroll engraving, accentuated by a single gold pin and ribbon showing the maker’s name. The bottom of the receiver exemplifies the level of craftsmanship in the sculpted frame and the precision fit of the trigger plate, again, covered in floral and scroll, but accentuated here with deep relief branches and leaves near those sculpted edges. The trigger guard hosts a central bouquet, surrounded by intricately detailed floral engraving. The screws or in superb condition, with each being engraved perfectly to its surroundings. The Anson forend latch is engraved, and has the matching 1 or 2 gold inlay. Incorporated into the borderless, point checkering pattern is a diamond of negative space that hosts a gold emblem marked “Imperial Extra Luxe” with a pigeon and crown design surrounding. Each gun hosts highly figured walnut with borderless point pattern checkering that follows around the daintiest wrist I have ever held on a 12 gauge double gun. The English stock terminates in a leather covered pad. Of course, with such a fine pair of guns a two gun Motor Case is included. Every aspect of craftsmanship and beauty on this matched pair draw attention where it is due, and yet there is something subtle about them as well, not too flashy; they are rich and warm.
