Description:
24 inch stainless steel octagon barrel. Full length tube magazine. Set trigger. Lyman ivory bead front sight with California buckhorn rear sight. Checkered deluxe walnut forearm with matching pistol grip buttstock featuring a blank silver escutcheon inlaid on the right and fitted with a replacement smooth shotgun style buttplate. Originally manufactured in 1887 with a casehardened frame before it was subsequently returned to the factory for refurbishment and upgraded with a 24 inch stainless steel octagon barrel. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on the factory replacement stainless steel barrel and on top of the receiver ring. The two-line Winchester address and King's patent marking, stainless steel marking, and caliber marking are all on the upper left barrel flat. The caliber marking is repeated on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The left side of the lower tang is marked "179 356 XX 38", with "356" crossed out. Side plates are also marked with “179”. Metal surfaces are clean and smooth showing near all restored finishes. Excellent bore is bright and shiny with decent rifling. Stocks are solid and full fitting with the buttstock having been shortened to 12-1/2 inch LOP and shows light wear and handling marks.
