The Raven Arms MP-25 is a small, semi-automatic pistol chambered in .25 ACP, manufactured in the United States by Raven Arms from roughly 1970 to 1991. It was designed as a very inexpensive, compact handgun intended for basic personal carry.

Design & Features

Simple blowback, single-action operation

6-round detachable magazine (often 6+1 capacity)

Constructed primarily from zinc alloy rather than steel to reduce cost

Fixed sights and minimal controls

Very small and lightweight, typical of pocket pistols

Historical Background
The MP-25 became popular after the Gun Control Act of 1968, which limited the importation of low-cost handguns. Raven Arms filled the demand with domestically produced, budget-priced pistols. The MP-25 evolved from earlier Raven .25 models and was one of the company’s most common designs.

Production ended after a factory fire in 1991, and Raven Arms ceased operations. The design lineage later continued under Phoenix Arms, which produced similar pistols with additional safety features.

Reputation

Often labeled a “Saturday night special" due to low price and basic construction

Known for mixed reliability depending on individual firearm condition

Zinc alloy construction limits long-term durability compared to steel-framed pistols

Some early models have been associated with safety concerns

Current Status
Raven Arms no longer exists, and the MP-25 is only available on the secondary market. Many surviving examples are now considered collector curiosities rather than practical defensive firearms.
