Description:
Serial #102526, .455 Webley, 2.5 inch barrel with a bright, excellent bore. This is a very late assembled Webley & Scott R.I.C. (Royal Irish Constabulary) Model revolver that was assembled sometime in the late 1920's to early 1930's near the end of production with the last one produced at SN 102634 (p201 Webley Solid Frame Revolvers, by Joel Black, Joseph L. Davis & Roger G. Michaud). The quintessential Scotland Yard / Sherlock Holmes revolver they were also used as back up pocket guns for British soldiers. The solid frames were produced prior to 1898 making them antique with only the last few hundred marked "Webley & Scott LTD" as this one is. This example is well marked and bears the Nitro Proof mark on the barrel along with the standard Birmingham and British proofs, showing "WEBLEY & SONS LTD BIRMINGHAM" on the left "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the right top strap side with "WEBLEY'S R.I.C. MODEL/83 5 SHOT" on the frame above the logo. In excellent condition the barrel, frame and cylinder retains much, 90-95%, of the original bright blue finish with scattered light use marks, scratches and nicks. The checkered wood grips are solid and show some minor scratches and contusions with the lanyard loop not present. Mechanically it functions properly with correct timing holding at half and full cock. An excellent example of the famous R.I.C. revolver made very close to the end of production.
