Bright finish, iron furniture, full-length walnut musket stock. Single shot percussion muzzleloading rifle musket with M1861 three leaf rear sight, Barleycorn combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels and swelled shank tulip head ramrod. Lock marked with a {Spread Winged Eagle}/U.S. and in two lines SAVAGE R.F.A. Co./MIDDLETOWN, Ct. forward of the hammer. Dated 1863 at tail of lock and 1863 on top of breech. Standard V/P/{Eagle Head} proofs on breech. The left barrel flat is stamped NJ and the counterpane has a deep block NJ mark as well, both indicating State of New Jersey purchase and ownership. Near Fine. Bore fine and bright with crisp rifling and light oxidation. Metal lightly cleaned with some scattered freckles of oxidation and age discoloration. Some small areas of scattered pitting are present, mostly on the reverse of the hammer. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional lock. Wood crisp with sharp edges and some lightly scattered bumps, dings and mars. CONDITION: UNISSUED?.... Bore very fine and bright with crisp rifling and light oxidation. Metal lightly cleaned with some scattered freckles of oxidation and age discoloration. Markings remain clear and crisp.Strong functional lock. Wood crisp with sharp edges and some old scratches to left of lockplate.
