Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R U.S. Springfield Model 1903 Bolt Action Infantry Rifle with a Model 1907 Pattern Leather Sling, made circa 1930 at the Springfield Arsenal. This rifle had a production run from 1903 through 1949 with over 3,000,000 produced. The M1903 Springfield, formally the United States Rifle, is an American five-round magazine fed, bolt-action service repeating rifle, used primarily during the first half of the 20th century.
It was officially adopted as a United States military bolt-action rifle on June 19, 1903, and saw service in World War I. It was officially replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the faster-firing semi-automatic eight-round M1 Garand starting in 1936. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard issue infantry rifle during World War II since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops.
“SA/flaming bomb/1-30” marked barrel. “R” marked replacement bolt assembly. “S.A./G.A.W.” cartouche on the left of the wrist.
This example has been arsenal refinished. Very fine. Excellent action. The bore is shiny, bright and maintains crisp rifling. Very fine wood with minimal handling evidence. A cartouche on the left wrist is clear. Parkerized finishes. Markings are sharp. Both the “P. J. O'Hare” ladder rear sight cover and the M1907 pattern leather sling are good.
