Description:
Excellent antique J Purdey & Sons 16ga D Quality boxlock side by side shotgun with original case, tools and factory letter. Built for JFW Burness in August of 1898 with 29” barrels chocked CYL/MOD, 2.5” chambers. 14.5” LOP with weight of 6lbs, 6oz. Drop at heel and comb of 2" and 1 ¼". Nitro proofed. The dimensions are original and match the details of the letter. This beautiful shotgun shows an older restoration with faded case color on the scroll engraved receiver and blue finish on the barrels. Screw heads are excellent. Clear retailer marking on the barrel “J Purdey & Sons, South Audley St, London”. The stock is in excellent condition, lever just off center with solid lock up. Bores are bright and shiny. Notice the leather case is neatly monogramed with original owners initials JFWB…again this matches the documentation from Purdey of the original owner initials. Boxlock Purdey’s are far less encountered than their side lock shotguns. This is a fine example of a classic British J Purdey & Sons side by side.
