Predecessor to the “NEW MODEL” Single Six
Here Ancestry Guns presents a Desirable C&R 3-Screw Frame Sturm, Ruger & Company Single Six Revolver chambered in both .22 Long Rifle Rimfire and .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire with both cylinders included, made in Southport, Connecticut in 1966. The Ruger Single-Six is a single-action rimfire revolver produced by Sturm, Ruger & Company and was first released in June of 1953. This one features the “Old Model” 3-Screw frame and lacks the transfer bar safety that the new ones have. Many prefer this old design for its light and crisp trigger pull.
The current production of the Single-Six is referred to as the New Model Single-Six. The “New Model” designation indicates that this version features Ruger's transfer bar mechanism, which enhances safety by allowing the revolver to be carried with all six chambers loaded without the risk of accidental discharge. Before 1973, the Single-Six was manufactured without this transfer bar, making it less safe to carry fully loaded, especially if the hammer rested on a loaded chamber. The transfer bar safety ensures that the revolver can only fire when the trigger is deliberately pulled. Ruger offers a free transfer bar safety upgrade to owners of older Single-Six models, although this modification may result in a noticeable change in trigger feel.
The overall condition is excellent. Original finish. Excellent action. Shiny bright bore with crisp rifling. Excellent grips. Markings are sharp. The included spare .22 Magnum cylinder is excellent.
