Springfield Armory Prodigy’s “heavy barrel” refers to its match-grade 4.25" bull barrel. This thicker, bushing-less design reduces barrel whip and muzzle rise, allowing faster follow-up shots and enhanced accuracy. The barrel fits tightly within the slide for a consistent, solid lockup and features an integral feed ramp for reliable feeding. As a result, the Prodigy offers a performance-oriented upgrade over traditional 1911 barrel designs, helping make it a competition-ready 9mm, double-stack, 1911-style pistol.
