Description:

Synopsis:

All-matching 1943 FEG Femaru “jhv” German military G.98/40 Mannlicher-pattern rifle, made 1943, WaA173 accepted, with correct sling and mirror bore. A beautiful example of a relatively scarce WWII Hungarian rifle!

Description:

Hungarian-manufactured Fémáru G.98/40 bolt-action rifle, made from 1941–1944, with total production estimated at approximately 148,400 rifles. This is the German-adopted variant of the Hungarian 35M Mannlicher, manufactured by Fémáru Fegyver és Gépgyár (FÉG), Budapest, under German wartime manufacturer code “jhv” following the occupation of Hungary. The rifle retains the distinctive Mannlicher-pattern bolt action with integral five-round magazine, chambered for the 8×57mm Mauser, rather than the original 8×56R Hungarian cartridge, to allow full compatibility with German stripper clips, slings, and bayonets.

The receiver ring is coded "jhv", dated 43, E/178 accepted, and SN: 258 l. The left receiver wall is marked “G 98/40,” denoting the official German designation. Hooded, drift adjustable front sight. The tangent rear sight is graduated 1-20 . Virtually all small parts are marked with the matching SN or partial "58" including the bayonet lug, both barrel bands, all components of the rear sight, the bolt knob, all minor components of the bolt head, the trigger guard, the floor plate, and the lower spine of the E/WaA 173 accepted stock. Complete with an original German leather sling tagged with “1939" label.

The G.98/40 is a classic example of German wartime small-arms adaptation, integrating the Hungarian Mannlicher design into Wehrmacht service through standardized chambering and German ordnance marking practices.

Condition:

Excellent bright original salt blue with minimal sharp edge wear excepting an oxidative spot under the barrel band and thinning over the bolt release and trigger guard bow, all carefully photographed. Handguard and stock have been lightly sanded and varnished; surface planes flat; all Waffenamt and stock numbering sharp and easily legible. VG sling with supple leather. Mirror bright bore. Correct manual mechanics. A beautiful and all-matching Hungarian G.98/40 military rifle, made 1943, as used by the German Army during WWII.
